remember this one?... vintage modern hst quilt DONE!

I have to be honest
this quilt has been finished since May

...eek

it was first posted here.

well,
Mothers Day to be exact.

It was a gift for my mom, and she loved it.

and so do I

this quilt was really quick to sew together
 since I used a pre-cut layer cake

{hst tutorial coming soon!}

{love the back drop with the mountains}

the back was created from yardage out of the
houndstooth print
and solid med kona cotton grey

the quilting on this was done by me.

Because this quilt was really big, I'm
talking queen size big I quilted it will with wonky lines that run throughout the entire quilt.

my only dislike is the quilting.
my sewing machine doesn't have a wide neck
so quilting a big quilt on it is a
challenge.

the lines are slightly curve and cross over in weird places
but the front and back make up
for me not liking the quilting.

my binding is out of the floral dots pear
which is a very pretty green with white polka dots
that tops off this quilt!

vintage modern yardage in stock!!!!

Vintage Modern, yardage is finally here. It is even more beautiful in person.

Remember this quilt top?  I posted about it here. I made it out of the vintage modern layer cake and ended up created a queen size hst (half square triangle) quilt top.. Which I am totally in love with.

So, I used this past weekend to finish the quilt top and I'm so happy to say it's done!!!! here is a sneak peak...

I know it's not much of a peak, more will come soon I promise.
This fabric is what I used to create the back and the idea of the back layout I got out of this book, by Elizabeth Hartman.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE  this book.. if you don't have one yet, I highly suggest buying one. It is definitely the book for the beginner quilter but also has some great patterns for the more experienced one.
Not to mention tons of great ideas, and things to learn that every quilter should know.

YOU NEED THIS BOOK....

vintage modern hst top

Over the weekend I was able to get some sewing done... and this beauty is what i produced.

I have it still hanging in this position in my hall, and every time I pass it brings a            smile to my face.

have you seen the new vintage modern fabrics?
here they are.

I used a layer cake from the vintage modern collection, which pre-cuts are in our shoppe.  this collection has 40 fabrics, while the layer cake has 42 squares. so you can image how big this quilt top turned out. I'm talking queen size big, which was what I was planning on.

I have to say that i am in love with this collection... it is so beautiful and each piece coordinates very nicely. I am totally digging the houndstooth prints which comes in 3 different colors.
                                                          so lovely.
I can't wait for the yardage to arrive, so I can finish this... its going to be a amazing.

p.s. a tutorial on making quick hst squares is coming soon!

Sanctuary HST quilt done!

I can now finally say that my Patty Young Sanctuary HST quilt is done! The top had been done almost a year before I finished the back, quilted and binded it. I am so happy with how it turned out. Especially the quilting and pieced backing. I had first posted about it HERE.
this was actually a quilt kit that I had put together based off of the pattern from Quiltstory. It's a great HST pattern and even better a free tutorial.
I really loving how the pieced backing turned out. I really love the main fabric used in this print, with it's fun bright colors.

I have to admit that my free motion quilting skills have come a long way... with each quilt I do it gets better and better. This one turned out pretty good, not perfect but getting there.

here are all the details.  We still have some Sanctuary prints in stock which are now 10% off, but we are limited, so pick some up soon.

Pre-New Year Resolution

It's 2 days away from the start of 2012 and I already have one new year resolution planned!.........

.......to finish all my quilt tops that have been hanging in my closet from the start of this year (actually there are 2 that are older than that, EEK) that have gotten pushed down the pile when something new takes my interest.

I'm totally not one of these people that can finish a quilt from start to finish. I usually can get the top done, then find another quilt that has captured my attention that I just have to start to make, hence the 7 quilt tops from the above picture. Yes, that is right I have SEVEN unfinished quilt tops hanging in my closet begging me to finish them each time I pass by. You can find the original post about each one below.

1. Grand Bazaar (eek, never got the chance to post about this one! it's going to be a quilt kit for the shoppe...coming soon)
2. Hungry Hippo zig zag (ekk, never posted about this one either)
3. Pick a bunch, organic Random reflections (this is a quilt kit here)
4. Amy Butler and Chain Link (my all time favorite)
5. Little Apples
6. Sanctuary Half Square Triangle
7. Andrea Victoria-New Wave (another one never mentioned... it will be)

Number 8 would be my baby quilt of Little apples, that is all pinned and ready to be quilted. Actually as I'm writing this, my little quilt is almost done and ready to be bound and snuggled.

As you can tell from the picture of quilt tops 4 of them were done for quilt kits for the shoppe while the other 4 were for my personal projects. This coming year, I will be featuring a lot more quilts that I personal make with free tutorials as well as a few quilt kits to be purchased.

Another great thing to look forward to will be our weekly link up parties, where you can link what you have sewed on throughout the week. These will be every Friday, but more information on that shortly.

a reminder that today is Thursday and have you bought your Customer Appreciation Sale Fat Quarter for only $1.25 yet?

Don't forget because tomorrow it will be a different fabric. this print can be found here or here.
