Check these off my list

At the beginning of this year, I posted about all the quilt tops that have been stacking up and needed to be finished. That post is here. I'm so pleased to have 2 completed and can't be more happy with how they all turned out.

This one didn't get finished in time for the holidays but is now ready for next years celebration.

when I was creating the quilt back, I had originally decided to make this into a wall hanging. So I thought a good idea would be to use up some jo-anns Christmas flannel from a couple of years ago since no one would see the back. I ended up piecing a bunch of different flannels together along with some grey solid scraps.


I'm not a big fan of jo-anns fabric quality, but the flannels turned out to be a good choice and use of fabrics from my stash. Once this was finished I decided to keep in as a quilt and not turn it into a wall hanging. I also tried my hand at a little free hand quilting around the boarders, so much fun!


the binding is that's all stripe from Michael Miller's holiday fabrics, which is currently on sale.

the next quilt I completed is made out of Anna Maria Horner's little folks voile's, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it turned out.

I love the back on this, which is little folks flannel forest hills in glow. It is so soft. I had some scraps of voile that I used together with the flannel as a chunky boarder on one of the sides.


I did some straight lined quilting and bound it in dobby dots lilac from the original pastry line from little folks.

I love this quilt and the voile is just so nice and soft to snuggle in.

little folks strip quilt tutorial

Love, Love, Love this quilt.

When we first got in Little Folks fabric about 6 months ago I longed to make up a quilt using a bunch of all these great prints. (so hard to narrow it down) So I decided to make a strip quilt making sure I got in all of my favorites.



I kept the width of the fabric since voile's measure about 54" wide and picked my must haves, which ended up being 22 prints. (eek)


Being a strip quilt I cut the fabrics all different widths, giving some dimension to the quilt. Since I wanted to include all 22 fabrics I did not have a certain length in mind. Just went with what ever size it turned out being.


Which ended up being really long... A good size throw for sure.

I backed it with Forest Hills Sweet. I loved it so much I could not bare to cut into it.




I machine quilted straight lines across, in a variety of places. Then I hand stitched with pearl cotton the same, in a variety of places. I made sure that the pearl cotton did not match with the fabric, I wanted it to stand out.




I bounded it in marine and coral dobby dot from the pastry line, that coordinates so well with little folks. (the dobby dot is now retired but the pastry line without the dots are available)

Over all I LOVE this quilt. I can't wait for it to get a bit cooler so I can snuggle..

laminate tablecloth tutorial -with little folks berry cotton laminate

I love this Anna Marie Horner Little folks laminate I got in recently. I knew it would make a perfect tablecloth for spring, and even better just in time for Easter.

This tutorial is a simple and fast way to take any laminate fabric (especially this one) and turn it into a tablecloth for any size rectangle table (great for a patio table).

NOTE: THIS TUTORIAL IS BASED OFF OF USING A SERGER. ( if you don't have a serger like I did, find a friend that does. this will only take about a half hour, so I'm sure they won't mind if you borrow it, giving them cookies it will probably sweeten the deal)

Materials:

pre-measured cotton laminate (found at any fabric shoppe, or buy little folks that I used HERE)
serger with coordinating thread and plate of cookies (optional)
scissors
plate or bowl to round edges (optional)


FIRST you want to measure the length of the table that your tablecloth will resided. The great thing about cotton laminate is that it is really wide. So most likely the width of the fabric will be greater than the width of your table. ( I will cut any length you need for your table in this fabric, just convo me HERE for details)


SECOND (OPTIONAL for round edges) fold your piece of fabric in half, then again, so you line all your corners straight. You will then take your plate or bowl to round the edges. If you don't want round edges, go on to THREE.


Next (with your friends assistance if you have never used a serger before) serger around all 4 sides. remember go slow around your curved edges. (if you have them)

Your end result will look like this


Now you have a fun spring tablecloth!

"Around the block" Quilt top tutorial using Little folks voile

This is my first every log cabin style quilt top I have made, and I have to say it was so much fun and super easy. I followed the pattern out of Better Home and gardens, Quilts and More spring 2009 issue, which can also be found HERE for a easy download and print option. Which I totally recommend. This large log cabin is the entire quilt.

I made my quilt top out of 17 different prints from Anna Marie Horners Little Folks Voile collection. HERE I will be backing it with her Folksy flannels fabric (which I will also post once it's complete) as soon as the fabric arrives in stock.


Materials needed:

3.5 yds total assorted prints, or polka dots (like pattern shows)
1.5 yd binding
3 1/4 yds backing
58" square batting

Finished quilt 51.2 square

GREAT TIP When working with Little Folks voile: Once you cut up these prints, if the selvage is not attached it's hard to figure out which side is up, great way to make sure you got the right side up is to mark it with a straight pin. This will allow for no mistakes or un picking..




This is a great easy quilt for a new sewer, its so much fun and this large log cabin size makes the perfect baby blanket.

Quick tip Monday-Cutting Voiles (so they don't slip)

Voiles have made a come back and I believe it all began with Anna Marie Horner's Little Folks collection. This wonderful line filled with awesome designs and patterns have really set the stage for this modern generation of quilters..

I have found a quick an easy way when cutting up this beautiful fabrics so you get the perfect straight lines you would with non voiles..By using dry wall tape (found at your local lowe's or hone depot) and sticking it to the bottom of your ruler this helps hold onto the voile so they don't move around when cutting.


This gives your lines a nice and clean look.


Just a reminders that I am one of the few etsy shops that currently carry the WHOLE LITTLE FOLKS COLLECTION, these fabrics have been literally flying off my shelfs the past week.. So if you are still wanting this awesome fabrics with a great selection, don't wait too long because once there gone there gone!

New bundles

I have been a busy bee, this past week trying to organize my fabric room to make room for Anna Marie Horner's WHOLE COLLECTION OF LITTLE FOLKS. (soon to arrive)



I put off wanting to buy these, because I knew I would have to buy the whole collection, 28 bolts....but after seeing my aunty's quilts she has made out of these fabric, and how smooth it feels to the touch, I gave in and bought all of it. However I am really disappointed that Anna's pastry line is now discontinued...That was by far my FAV, I keep calling up my rep and telling her they need to re-print so my fingers are still crossed...

I will let you all know when they have arrived and are ready for purchase, probably with in this next week.
